How to become an online tutor for a healthcare licensing exam

You passed PLAB, AMC, USMLE, NCLEX, KAPS, the Kenntnisprüfung or another licensing exam. Somewhere a candidate is now preparing for the same exam and would pay for an hour of your experience. This guide walks through the first month as a tutor on PassPeers.

Week 1: the profile

Five fields matter: the exam you passed, the year, your licence or registration number, your hourly rate, and three to five lines on how you prepared. Write the lines the way you would tell a colleague over coffee, not like a CV. Profiles are checked manually before they go live; the licence number is shown so candidates can verify it in the public register.

Setting a rate

Most tutors on PassPeers charge the equivalent of $40 to $90 an hour. Three rules of thumb:

You can change the rate at any time; it applies to new requests.

The first request

Candidates send a short message with their exam date and what they need. It costs them nothing and does not bind you. Reply within a day; propose two or three time slots within the next seven days. Once the candidate pays, both of you get the video link.

The first session

Ask three questions in the first five minutes: when is the exam, what have you done so far, what scares you most. Then spend the hour on the third answer. End with two concrete things to do before the next session. Candidates who leave with a to-do list book again.

What you may not do

Money

Payouts go to your bank account through Stripe after each session. PassPeers keeps 15 % of the session price; there is no fee, subscription or minimum. The income is taxable in the country where you live.
