Driving in the UK on a foreign licence

You can drive on your licence for 12 months after becoming resident in Great Britain. Licences from a list of designated countries can then be exchanged without a test; all others need the theory and practical test.

How long your licence is valid

These rules are for Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales). Northern Ireland has its own licensing agency – see further down.
